Your responsibility as a pet owner
For dogs, a tag that identifies you as the owner is a legal requirement. There is a £90 fine for non-compliance. Cat owners don’t face the same enforcement, but it is highly recommended that all cats wear an ID tag. If your pet goes missing and cannot be identified, how would you find them?
Pet Security
An ID tag from Pets Bureau protects you from identity theft, with its unique serial number. All people who call in using this number are traceable from the caller CLI information which can be handed over to the authorities should it prove necessary. Pets Bureau identifies your pet with this number.
Quick response
Next to the unique serial number is a 24-hour freephone number. This means your pet can be identified 24-hours-a-day, 365-days-a-year to arrange an immediate reunification. This reduces the number of strays and helps to keep your pet safe.
Always available
Pets Bureau works through its automated service with Rescue centres, Vets, Dog wardens and the Police to identify pets and pet owners 24-hours-a-day, 365-days-a-year. If a Dog warden or Police officer needs a pet owner’s contact information, they simply call the number. The information is ALWAYS available to them (24 hours).
Reducing strays
Seventy-five per cent of all stray pets reported to Pets Bureau are found before their owners even realise they are missing! Many are found in the middle of the night when local authority resources may not be available. This means Pets Bureau is going a long way to reduce the number of strays on our streets.
Contacting pet owners
Pets Bureau can identify and can make information instantly available to the finder, the owners information, pertaining to their registered pets. Our database securely holds more contact information than fits on a pet ID tag and all inbound calls are tracked thus, putting off thiefs, this information would be made available to the authorities on demand. We also hold multiple phone numbers for every owner and are therefore able to speedily reunite pets with their owners.
Microchips
Microchips or tattoos are not required by law but they are highly recommended for both dogs and cats. They integrate with Pets Bureau ID tags to provide another quick, secure way to identify stolen and lost dogs and cats.
Posters
A poster is one of the first things many pet owners put up when their dog is lost or their cat has strayed. These can be very effective but be aware that:
Some local authorities consider this to be fly posting and you could face a fine.
You should always ask the land owner for permission before displaying your poster.
If you post a reward do not specify an amount.
If your pet has been stolen ask for information about who has the pet rather than rewarding a criminal for their return.
Your other responsibilities as a pet owner include:
Visit your vet regularly
Treat your pet regularly for worms
Feed your pet a well balanced diet
Exercise your pet regularly
Make sure your dog is properly socialised
Make sure your dog is kept under control in public
