The Pets Bureau has put together some useful information for pet owners. If you either already have a dog, cat or other pet or if you are thinking of owning a pet in the future, please take a look at the articles within this section first.
Owning a pet needs both time and financial planning and with a little help and guidance, you and your pet can benefit from a healthy, happy and safe life together.
Pets Bureau is constantly adding useful contact details of associations who deal with a wide range of services for pets and their owners.
Responsible Pet Ownership
For dogs, a tag that identifies you as the owner is a legal requirement. There is a £90 fine for non-compliance. Cat owners don’t face the same enforcement, but it is highly recommended that all cats wear an ID tag. If your pet goes missing and cannot be identified, how would you find them?
Pet Microchipping
Microchips are available from your local vet. They are tiny and placed in the scruff of the neck in a relatively painless procedure. When scanned by an animal warden, vet or rescue centre, a serial number unique to your pet is displayed. Pets Bureau keeps this number with your pet’s other details. This provides another quick and easy way to identify them.
Are your cats safe?
Cats are less likely to be stolen than dogs. But they are much more likely to stray. This puts them at greater risk on our roads. It is estimated that 1,100 cats are injured on the roads every week!
